mp3:Wouldn’t It Be Nice

Dear The Beach Boys,

I’ve been thinking about how something I wrote about in reference to a Fleetwood Mac song.  I feel like sometimes songs become so popularized that I don’t listen to them as a text.  I hear a song, know that it is a classic, and group it with all the other classics that are in my head.  But there is more.

So when I hear “Wouldn’t it be nice”, I tend to think: Classic, Summer, 50 First Dates.  And then I listen again and there is so much beautiful construction going on –so much earnestness behind all of those weird vocal sounds.  But then again, it is also a great summer song.
