Fleetwood Mac

mp3:The Chain

Dear Fleetwood Mac,

fleetwoodmacc1.jpgSo far my summer has been filled with many good things. It is during this time that I have a little more free time which I can use to do various things, such as eat snow cones, go swimming, and dive a little bit into film and music history. I seemed to have done this before: I go to the orem public library and get cds that are deemed as classic, knowing that these things are good for me. You see, I had the unfortanate upbringing of parents (bless their heart) who mostly severed ties with their musical histories and replaced them with healthy doses of Michael McLean and EFY tapes. As a result, I have little appreciation for anything “classic”, and somehow instead prefer indie bands trying to acheive that classic sound.

So it was during one of these kicks that I picked up Rumours. Let me first say that the thing is genius. I had heard most of the songs before, but they had been fragmented, used as campaign theme songs, background music on a Chevy commercial. Taken out of context they lose the urgency that is found on the album, all the more powerful because I know that it is the sound of a band trying to stay together.

So thanks, you guys may just be the valuable link that connects me to a past that has previously seemed out of reach.

Plus, Stevie Nicks was a babe.

Rob

if you don’t love me now
