Dear OK Ikumi,
So tonight was halloween. And as per usual, I spent several hours beforehand fretting about what I would dress up as. At one point I was really trying to get Mike be Beavis and Butthead with me, or Joel and Ben Madden — That didn’t work. I was almost Shaun of the dead, merely because I had a red tie and a cricket bat. However, in the end I opted to borrow my friend Tony’s costume that he wore last year. It is one of those inflatable ones, and it made me look like I had really short legs and that I was riding on the back of an ostrich. It proved to be a hit, despite the minimum amount of effort I placed into it. Just ask carrot top, props always work as the best form of comedy. Upon putting on this costume, I went to see your other band, Salt City, play a show. You guys were excellent as always. You played the really awesome instrumental song, and then this other song with double drums at the end.
Another dude played and he was from Australia or something. He played music that was kind of like Xiu Xiu, except for the fact that it really didn’t have much melody. A girl commented afterwards that I should buy some stuff to support him on his worldwide tour. Let me just say that I really hate this attitude (I am not meaning to disrespect the girl). I hate the guilt trip that you get when small unknown bands are on tour. I shouldn’t have to support them if I don’t want to. It is his choice to embark on a world tour when he is relatively unknown, and if people don’t want to buy his records because they don’t like them, then that is their problem…Oh Geez, that was a bit rantish…sorry.
All the bitterness that I may have felt was somehow absorbed by the fact that I got to talk to Karl. We spoke of how you can always come up with the best costume ideas at the last moment, but you often struggle putting them together. It was the same thing I was dealing with earlier. It made me remember why Karl is one of my favorite people ever. What a great way to spend a halloween
Happy Birthday Betsy
Rob
